It was a busy day. Groveton Baptist has 2 worship services; the early service is a contemporary praise and worship type service, while the second is more traditional. In between we attended Sunday School with the youth.
Here is a picture of the main part of the church.
The church is on a main road in a busy commercial area. Here are some pictures
of the surrounding area.
Groveton has about 40 people at their first service and 100 in their second
service. The pastor preaches the same message during both services so we
got the double barrel shot gun. The message today was on being accepted by
God from John 1:12-13. God is giving. Since God is love and love in self-giving,
then God’s kind of love is always giving. In these verses the Bible
shows us that God gave us the right to become sons of God. There are two
conditions on the gift:
1.) to all who receive him
2.) to those who believe in his name.
One interesting point that Pastor Bush pointed out was that when we read a passage in the Bible, we should always ask “What is God doing?” Sometimes we have to ask the question several times and not give up when we don’t get a quick answer.
The Onward gang did the “Redeemer” skit in both services.
After church the Groveton folks fed us a spaghetti lunch -
and then we changed for VBS invitation distribution. We went door to door in a huge apartment complex that is just a few blocks from the church, and then went to the neighborhood behind the church.
Then we went back to the church to set up for VBS. The SBC youth are stretching a lot in VBS. Many of them are teaching and leading in new areas for them, but they are all being VERY willing to step out of their comfort zone and let God use them this week. We need your prayers as we minister to the kids. Please pray that we will teach them God’s word correctly, that during crafts, recreation and music that we will point each kid toward God. Also pray that we will be found faithful in what God has asked us to do. Finally, pray that as God stretches us, that we will grow in him to fit the areas he is stretching.
Ms. Pam and “the Colonel” (KFC) fixed our supper.
Then we joined the Groveton youth for their evening service. Their Sunday
evening service is a little bit like Youth Oasis. Here is a picture of
us attending the
Sunday evening service.
Then it was back to the hotel (after a brief shopping stop at one of the local
exotic retailers – Target) for a little relaxation and a good night’s
sleep.
