Children's Choirs
Our Purpose
The goals of the Children’s Music Ministry are:
- To provide valuable spiritual and musical experience during every weekly session in order to build a foundation for genuine conversion.
- To teach a variety of psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs at every level (Colossians 3:16).
- To teach children to worship and praise our Lord Jesus Christ through the songs they sing.
- To train the children in music fundamentals.
Our Parents
We always appreciate the faithfulness of our parents in bringing their children to choir each week. We are always looking for willing parents that would be ready to help with costumes, artwork, props, set design and construction, and servers of refreshments and meals. We can also use hospitality hostesses to help choir leadership with parties or extra rehearsals, with organizing refreshments as the main responsibility. Parents of Younger Children: Please make every effort to pick up your children by 6:15 PM immediately after choir. This will help our teachers get to the worship service on time.
Our Ministry
Preschool Choirs
Three year olds have a music activity time. They learn songs about Jesus in their lives and in the church. Four and five year olds are introduced to a few music fundamentals as they learn songs about Jesus in their lives and in the church.
Younger Choirs
First and second graders learn basic musical principles and many Scripture songs. They also begin leading praise in the evening worship services. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a musical.
Older Choirs
Third and fourth graders review musical fundamentals and have the opportunity to lead the worship in the evening services. They may also participate in a musical.
Pre-Teen Choir
Pre-Teen Choir is a new ministry formed to meet the needs of our fifth and sixth graders. They will review basic musical fundamentals, but the focus will be learning to become worship leaders. They will learn how to discern good and evil in the area of music. There will be many opportunities for them to lead worship in our evening services.
Summer Son Seekers
Vacation Bible School combines with music day camp for one week during the summer. The children will learn the music throughout the week and present a musical on Sunday evening. Extra commitment is required to learn speaking or solo parts. Auditions for these parts are held in May and are open to all children.
Our Policies
Attendance
Every choir session is important. Each week is planned with specific goals in mind, so a missed session cannot really be “made up.” The children need your cooperation for consistent attendance. Pre-teen and Children’s Choirs choirs begin at 5:15 PM on Sunday evenings. Each choir has early activities set up by 5:00 PM for the children that arrive early. Please teach your children the discipline of promptness.
Regular Performances
Each choir is scheduled to sing periodically in the evening worship service. This is a very important part of the choir program because the children are given the opportunity to serve the Lord and lead in worship. In each choir, we are learning the concepts of praise and of giving our best to Jesus.
Special Programs
When we present a special program that requires an extra rehearsal, attendance is REQUIRED!! No one may perform who misses the dress rehearsal without special permission from the child’s choir director.
Our Leadership
We are blessed to have a well-trained, dedicated group of directors and teachers. Your children will receive excellent musical training and fine guidance from these faithful teachers.
Hymn Memory Program
Each choir, with the exception of three year olds, has a Hymn Treasures Club. The children learn one hymn each month. Hymn CDs and books will be available for $5.00. A list of the hymns for the year will be distributed through each choir.
Awards
Each choir member may work toward earning the following awards:
Outstanding Attendance
Absent no more than four (4) times during the year (rehearsals and performances). Younger children receive a Christian music CD. Pre-teen students receive a gift certificate to an area Christian book store.
Hymn Memory
Memorizing the 9 hymns required for the child’s grade level for the year. Students receive a trophy.
